Losing a Google Business Profile with years of reviews on it is one of the worst things that can happen to a local contractor. Reinstatement is slow, uncertain, and sometimes impossible.
Here's what causes it.
Suspension-level mistakes
- A fake address, a virtual office, or a mailbox store address
- Multiple listings for the same business at the same location
- Keyword stuffing the business name — 'Joe's Roofing Best Roofer Delaware'
- Listing an address you don't actually operate from
- Incentivized or purchased reviews
Ranking-level mistakes
- Wrong or overly broad primary category
- Empty services section
- No photos, or photos from four years ago
- Hours that don't match reality
- Ignoring reviews entirely, especially the negative ones
- Inconsistent name, address, and phone across other sites
The address rule people break
If you don't have a location customers can visit, hide your address and use service areas. Running the business from your home is completely fine — just hide the address.
Making up a commercial address to look bigger is the single most common cause of suspension.
If you do get suspended
Fix the underlying violation first, then file for reinstatement with documentation — business license, utility bill, insurance certificate, photos of signage.
It can take weeks. Don't create a second listing while you wait; that makes it worse.
The safe path is boring: real address or hidden address, accurate information, honest reviews, consistent details everywhere. Boring keeps your listing.
