Every contractor says they want more leads. Almost none of them actually do — they want more of the right leads and fewer tire-kickers.
Those are opposite strategies.
Qualify on the website, not on the phone
Every unqualified call costs you twenty minutes. Ten a week is most of a workday gone.
Publishing your service area, your minimum project size, your price ranges, and what you don't do filters those out before they dial.
State prices, or at least ranges
This is the single most effective filter available and most contractors refuse to use it.
Someone with a $4,000 budget looking at $15,000 work will disqualify themselves and you'll never spend a minute on it. That's a win for both of you.
Say who you're for
'We specialize in full kitchen remodels between $40,000 and $90,000' brings you far better calls than 'we do all types of remodeling.'
Narrowing feels like losing work. It's actually how you stop losing time.
Rank for the specific searches
'Standby generator installation Sussex County' brings someone who knows what they want. 'Electrician near me' brings anyone with a flickering light.
Specific pages bring specific buyers.
Track the source
Ask every caller how they found you and write it down. After ninety days you'll know exactly which channels produce work you actually want.
Most contractors are guessing about this, and most guesses are wrong.
The measure that matters
Not lead count. Revenue per lead, and hours spent per closed job.
Twenty good leads that close at 40 percent beats sixty leads that close at 8 percent, and it beats it while giving you your evenings back.
